Nepal : Country Profile

Situation :

Nepal, South Asian  Landlocked Country between two gaints India on East, South & West and China on North. It is located between latitude 26 degree 22 minutes North to 30 degree 27 minutes North and longitude 80 degree 4 minutes East to 88 degree 12 minutes East. Being land locked country the nearest sea access is about 1150 Km. from the border.

Although a small country Nepal is very rich in Geographical, Cultural and Natural diversity having the width 150-250 Km from north to south  and  850-1000 Km from east to west the elevation changes from 100 Metre to 8848 Metre, with more than 125 ethinic groups, diverse culture and diverse nature.

Natural Resourses : High Himalaya Mountains (including Mt. Everest- Top of the world),

Forest:  More than 40% area coverage,  Natural Herbs and NTFPs,

High current rivers ( Sapta Koshi, Sapta Gandaki, Karnali are three major rivers) Lakes ( Rara,         Fewa, Begnas, Rupa, Se Phoksondo, Tilicho etc .)

Mines :  Lime stones, Magnisite, Stone, sand and so many other feasible minirals.

Member in Regional and Global Organisations/Institutions :

Founder Member of SAARC, SAFTA, BIMSTEC and member of  ADB, AIIB , World Bank Non Alligned  Movement and United Nations.

Political and Administrative  System:

Nepal is governed on the basis of Constitutional Federalism with multi party system . The country is politically divided into three stages of Governments, i.e., Federal, Provincial and Local Levels. It has 7 Pradesh (Provinces)  and administratively 77 Districts. In the local level there are753 Local Bodies. Among them there are 460 Gaunpalika  ( Villages) , 276 Nagarpalika (Municipalities) , 11 Upa Mahanagarpalika (Sub-Metropolitan Cities) and 6 Mahanagarpalika (MetropolitanCities).

Federal Parliament :  House of Representatives 275 and Rastriya Sabha 59 = 334 members.

                                (House of Representative 165 Directly ecected and 110 proportionately = 275.)

CPN(UML) and CPN(MC) have majority government  in all Provinces  except Province 2.

These two parties unified  later and formed Communist Party of Nepal(CPN).

Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum-SSF and Rastriya Janata Party-RJP have coilation government in Province no. two .
